About the Symbol:
Vegvísir is known as the Icelandic compass. Loosely translated it means “Way Pointer”. However, it might also bear a spiritual meaning, like a compass of one’s soul – so bearers of the Vegvisir will never lose their way of life, or sight of their purpose.
While there are arguments that symbols like Aegishjalmur and Vegvisir are of Icelandic nature rather than Norse, both symbols are described in Norse mythology (Poetic Edda). Considering that most Icelanders are direct descendants of Vikings from Denmark and Norway, we can safely say that the symbols are at the very least part of Norse culture.
